As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

The International Journal of Critical Studies on Muslim Societies (IJCSMS) is a peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary journal. The journal welcomes submissions from scholars and experts in the fields of social sciences and humanities, particularly those related to critical studies on Muslim societies. Contributions are invited from researchers worldwide; therefore, authors are encouraged to provide sufficient context to ensure their work is accessible to a broad academic audience.

Types of Papers

The journal accepts the following types of manuscripts:

  1. Original Research Articles
  2. Short Communications
  3. Review Articles (including meta-analysis and systematic reviews)

Manuscript Submission

All manuscripts must be submitted online through the journal website:

Authors must register and log in as an Author to submit manuscripts:

A user account is required for submission. Authors may register independently and select their roles (Reader, Author, and/or Reviewer). All required fields (Username, Password, First Name, Last Name, and Email) must be completed. Usernames must be unique and cannot be changed once created.

General Guidelines

  • Manuscripts must follow the IJCSMS template (MS Word format).
  • Each paragraph should be clearly indicated. Tables and figure captions should be placed on separate pages at the end of the manuscript.
  • All pages must be numbered consecutively, and manuscripts should be spell-checked.
  • Avoid excessive use of italics and bold formatting.
  • Manuscripts should be clear, concise, and logical, and generally not exceed 4,000 words.

Abstract
The abstract should be informative and self-contained, clearly stating the problem, methodology, key findings, and conclusions. It should be written in the past tense and contain 100–200 words.

Keywords
Provide relevant keywords to enhance discoverability in indexing and abstracting services.

Introduction
The introduction should include background information, a clear problem statement, relevant literature, and the novelty or contribution of the research.

Methodology
Describe the research design and procedures clearly and systematically, supported by appropriate references.

Results and Discussion
Present results clearly and provide a comprehensive discussion of the findings.

Conclusion
The conclusion should align with the objectives stated in the introduction and highlight key findings, implications, and possible future research directions.

Tables and Figures
Tables and figures should be centered and clearly labeled.

References

  • A minimum of 25 references is required.
  • Use reference management tools such as Mendeley or Zotero.
  • The citation style must follow IEEE format.
  • References should be numbered in the order of appearance in the text using square brackets, e.g., [1], [2], [3].
  • Only cited references should be included in the reference list.

Example citations:

  • This theory was first proposed in 1970 [9].
  • Sutikno [10] argued that...
  • Several studies [7], [9], [11]–[15] suggest that...

Corresponding Author

One author must be designated as the corresponding author and provide:

  • Email address
  • Full postal address
  • Telephone number

Manuscripts that do not comply with these guidelines will be returned for revision. Only manuscripts prepared according to the required format will be considered for review.

Viewing and Updating Profile

Authors can view and edit their profile by logging in and selecting “Edit My Profile” from the User Home page. Personal information, email address, and password can be updated at any time.

Resetting Password

If you forget your password:

  1. Click Log In
  2. Select Forgot Your Password?
  3. Enter your registered email address
  4. Follow the instructions sent to your email

Submission Preparation Checklist

Before submission, authors must ensure that:

  1. The manuscript has not been published or submitted elsewhere.
  2. The file is in MS Word format and follows the IJCSMS template.
  3. All authors have an ORCID ID (mandatory).
  4. The manuscript follows all formatting and referencing guidelines.
