Ethical Guidelines for Journal Publication
The publication of an article in a peer-reviewed journal such as IJCSMS represents an essential contribution to the development of a coherent and respected body of knowledge. It reflects the quality of the work of the authors and their supporting institutions.
Peer-reviewed publications uphold and embody the scientific method. Therefore, it is important to establish clear ethical standards for all parties involved in the publishing process, including authors, editors, reviewers, publishers, and academic institutions.
Duties of Editors
Publication Decisions
The editor of IJCSMS is responsible for deciding which submitted articles should be published. Decisions are based on the validity of the work, its significance to researchers and readers, and the journal’s editorial policies. Editors may consult with other editors or reviewers and must comply with legal requirements regarding libel, copyright, and plagiarism.
Fair Play
Editors evaluate manuscripts based solely on their intellectual content, without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.
Confidentiality
Editors and editorial staff must not disclose any information about submitted manuscripts to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, editorial advisors, and the publisher, as appropriate.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in an editor’s own research without the explicit written consent of the author.
Duties of Reviewers
Contribution to Editorial Decisions
Peer review assists editors in making publication decisions and may also help authors improve their manuscripts through constructive feedback.
Promptness
Reviewers who feel unqualified or unable to complete a review promptly should notify the editor and withdraw from the review process.
Confidentiality
Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents and must not be shared or discussed without authorization.
Standards of Objectivity
Reviews should be conducted objectively, with clear arguments supporting the reviewer’s opinions. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate.
Acknowledgement of Sources
Reviewers should identify relevant work not cited by the authors and notify the editor of any substantial similarity between the manuscript and other published works.
Disclosure and Conflict of Interest
Reviewers must not use privileged information obtained through peer review for personal advantage and should avoid reviewing manuscripts where conflicts of interest exist.
Duties of Authors
Reporting Standards
Authors must present an accurate account of their research and provide an objective discussion of its significance. Data must be reported accurately, and sufficient detail should be provided to allow replication.
Data Access and Retention
Authors may be required to provide raw data for editorial review and should retain such data for a reasonable period after publication.
Originality and Plagiarism
Authors must ensure that their work is original and that all sources are properly cited.
Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication
Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously or publishing the same research in multiple venues is considered unethical.
Acknowledgement of Sources
Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given.
Authorship of the Paper
Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made significant contributions to the research. All co-authors must approve the final version of the manuscript.
Hazards and Human or Animal Subjects
Any potential hazards related to the research must be clearly identified in the manuscript.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
Authors must disclose any financial or other conflicts of interest and all sources of funding.
Fundamental Errors in Published Works
If an author discovers a significant error in their published work, they must promptly notify the editor and cooperate in correcting or retracting the article.
Plagiarism Checker
All submitted manuscripts will be screened using plagiarism detection tools to ensure originality. Manuscripts found to contain significant similarity or plagiarism will be rejected or returned for revision.
